My Top 3 Favorite Podcasts

I feel like I am super late to the podcast game, but now that I’m in it, I’m hooked! I listen to podcasts driving to and from work, while I’m coding, and even when I’m on the treadmill! Generally, I have different podcasts that I listen to at different points in the day – some #girlboss style episodes when I head to work, murder mysteries when I’m working (not really sure why, but I love it!) and then some really fun, highly inappropriate PG-13 podcasts when I head home!

While I love checking out new podcasts, there are three that I am OBSESSED with. Legit obsessed. I recommend these to all of my friends because not only do they deliver entertaining content, but they deliver important content – stuff that needs to be talked about! The topics range from the struggles of being a #girlboss to race issues to normalizing therapy. These are the three podcasts that not only have me laughing out loud but inspire me to be the best version of myself.

In no particular order, I give you: My Top 3 Favorite Podcasts

Being Boss

Being Boss is my go-to #badbitch podcast I listen to while heading to work. It honestly wakes me up more than my coffee! The basis of this podcast is two super badass ladies interviewing successful entrepreneurs about their journies to becoming #boss. The hosts, Emily and Shannon, expose the behind the scenes of life as a creative entrepreneur, and they don’t hold anything back. They talk about the good, the bad and the messy of starting a business, weaving in personal anecdotes with those of the people they are interviewing. And if you love a good F-bomb every now and then, these ladies don’t disappoint!

Their guests range from Brene Brown to David Hansson, the creator of BaseCamp. Hearing the beginning journeys of so many successful individuals reminds me that none of their successes happened overnight. Being Boss was created for creative entrepreneurs who are working either full time or part time on a creative endeavor, and they acknowledge that at times, it can be super hard! As a web developer, I really appreciate their candid discussions about the reality of working for yourself or taking steps to eventually do so.

They touch on topics such as:

  • staying inspired in the face of burnout
  • dealing with fraudy feelings
  • finding your tribe

If you’re looking for a podcast that gets you PUMPED to be a badass boss each day, then I would definitely recommend adding Being Boss to your morning routine.

Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness

This is my go-to podcast when I want to learn something new about something I have zero background knowledge of. Or if I am looking to get a dose of 1000mg of sass. Johnathan takes relevant, real-world topics and invites experts and/or professors to talk about them with him. His brilliant energy has me 100% engaged the entire time! What makes his conversations so amazing is that he meets the experts halfway with a well-researched, in-depth knowledge of the topic they talking about. He has a way of breaking down topics ranging from The Opioid Crisis to Gender Identity in ways that make the information completely digestible for all audiences.

Getting Curious is a one-of-a-kind podcast in that it makes difficult content accessible for anyone and everyone!

The best part?! He does this with his larger than life personality and quick wit – and it gives me so much life!

Some of the topics he covers are:

  • what’s going on in the middle east?
  • how does global health affect everything?
  • egg donor meets egg 18 years later.

His own background knowledge pushes the experts to dive deeper into the topic than most interviewers do. He asks the clarifying questions that most people would be too embarrassed to ask, which has actually inspired me to do the same.

This podcast also covers lighter topics such as:

  • Who was the Beyonce of the Renaissance?
  • What’s a menstrual cup?

Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness helps me to stay curious and not be afraid to ask important questions! If you’re looking for light-hearted but highly intellectual conversation, Jonathan is a must-listen!

Notes:

Jonathan Van Ness is one of Fab Five of Queer Eye on Netflix as well as the star of Gay of Thrones.

Why Won’t You Date Me

This is my go-to podcast when I’ve had a ROUGH day at work. It’s for when I need a deep belly laugh, and for when I need to turn off my brain completely. I love it. Nicole’s dry humor and highly inappropriate personal anecdotes revive my mind and soul. She interviews guests about their love lives, asks them for dating advice, and talks about things that most people have been trained to pretend they know nothing about. But not Nicole Byer, she keeps it REAL. She covers topics ranging from Bootycalls to Therapy and everything in between.

If you’re looking for the most entertaining car/train ride podcast, Nicole is your girl.

Some of my favorite topics she’s covered are:

  • Tinder fails
  • Bad Hookups
  • Body Positivity

Her podcast has inspired me to unapologetically express my thoughts and feelings and to not hold anything back.

Notes:

Nicole is a comedian and host of Nailed It! on Netflix!
